Madurodam Scheveningen

In the green heart of Scheveningen, a short distance from El Niño Beach Club, lies Madurodam: the world-famous miniature city where the whole of the Netherlands comes to life at 1:25 scale. Stroll past canal houses, windmills, cheese markets and the Delta Works, all painstakingly recreated and surprisingly lifelike.

Aeroplanes taxi across a mini Schiphol, trains race through the landscape and ships sail into the harbour. All around you can join in: operate a lock, load a container ship or help guard the dikes. It's a playful way to discover what makes the Netherlands unique — a delight for children and grown-ups alike.

Madurodam is largely open-air, so pick a fine day and bring comfortable shoes. Allow around two to three hours to explore the entire miniature city.
